Nem5 Web Maggic Awards Program Detractions Criteria
70. pages too large/long
Optimum size for a page is no more than three (3) scroll lengths.
A single scroll length of the page will be considered the portion
of the page that is seen when it opens. A screenshot would be
a single scroll length. One (1) scroll length would be the portion
of the page directly under the first scroll length that can be
seen when a user scrolls down to read. Allowances will be made
for long pages that show content that should not be broken up
into more than one page or contain a warning about their length
before they are opened within reason.
71. over-optimized images
Images should not be optimized to the point of degradation. We
call bad degradation in images being "pixelated". We
use this word to try to explain the squared pixels that look blurred
due to optimizing too heavily. When images are optimized to this
degree sections of the image will look as if the pixels are out
of place. (pixelated)
72. mistakes in HTML
HTML will be checked for mistakes. Any mistakes found in the HTML
will not earn this point. Example: not adding a background color
to the body tag, or empty tags would be considered an oversight
or omission and will be considered an error in the coding of the
page.
73. dead ends
Internal links that do not open will be considered dead ends.
The need to click the "Back" button will be considered
a dead end. Links leading to a picture or an object inside the
main screen with no links to get back to the website will be considered
dead ends. Example: a direct link to a picture that is not part
of a page.
74. broken links
All internal links must work. (See criteria point 1.) External
links leading to other sites may open in another window and allowances
will be granted for broken external links within reason. If more
external links are broken than work the site will not earn this
point.
75. excessive windows
An excessive amount of windows opening within a site will not
earn this point. If a page that is part of the site opens in another
window it must show cause to do so.
76. repetition
Every page should have a reason to be. Each page or even each
paragraph should not be a repeat of every other.
77. forced email/newsletter
Requiring the acceptance of a newsletter or email list inclusion
in order to gain information or services will keep a site from
earning this point. If it is found this is done without the knowledge
of the user it will be considered promotion of spam and will disqualify
the site and any award the site has earned currently or previously
will be revoked. (See criteria point 15.)
78. excessive advertising
Excessive use of advertising buttons and banners detract from the aesthetic appeal of a site and will not earn this point.
