Nem5 Web Maggic Awards Program Disqualifying Criteria
One point will be scored for each item (13-21) a site does not have from this list. If a site does not have all 9 points (13-21) it will not be scored further.
13. *use bandwidth piracy
All objects, graphics and programming must be located on your site, unless the owner does not allow it (as with some award graphics). If downloading is not approved, note of it should be made on the page where the work is used. Nem5 considers bandwidth piracy to be the use of objects/images/programming placed on a site by linking directly to them on another domain instead of downloading them to the site without showing proper credit and permissions. Items located on other domains: 1) will be considered 3rd party work, 2) will not be eligible for award and 3) will be subject to copyright rules. (Also see criteria points 2 and 3.)
14. *forced downloads
Programming and plugins used on the majority of the site must
be considered standard and be available with the download of the
latest browser versions (examples of "standard" programming
and plug-ins are Flash, Java, DirectX or any plug-in that is part
of regular system updates; "non-standard" programming
and plug-ins include those that are unusual, rarely used, or unnecessary).
Nem5 Judges will not be expected to download any programming or
plug-in to view any website.
Site must not have spyware, excessive or unnecessary cookies.
Site must be viewable with cookies blocked.
15. *promote illegal activities
Site must not perform or promote illegal activities, or show any
illegal activity in a manner that portrays the activity in a positive
way. Examples: spam, cracking, freaking, Warez, theft, abuse,
etc.
16. *make browser crash
This program has several judges who use several different versions
of several different browsers. A site/page that freezes, crashes,
or otherwise causes a computer to close one or more windows, or
the computer itself, will be disqualified. Pages that time out
will be considered a crash and will disqualify the site. Nem5
considers a timeout to be the point when the browser gives a message
that it was unable to load a page.
17. *have hate messages
Site must not have a theme or portray a message, whether directly or indirectly, that promotes anger, violence or hatred toward anyone or anything. We want to find out what is good on your site, not what someone or something does that may be considered bad. This award program strives to promote positive endeavors.
18. *promote pornography
Site must not perform or promote pornography, or show any nudity
with the express purpose of shocking the audience. Nudity is acceptable
only when shown in an artistic manner. Examples: Michaelangelo's
David is art. A scene with two teddy bears in explicit positions
is porn.
19. *discriminate
Site must not discriminate in any manner (Examples: race, creed,
religion, hair color, age, sex, etc.).
20. *error messages
The site must have no error messages that popup or display in
the loading bar.
21. *music/popups
Some sites show excellent skills in all areas, but choose not to allow users to turn off music or have advertising pop-ups that break the attention span of visitors. Normally these sites will not be eligible for Nem5 Web Maggic Awards. The only exception to this will be when the site can show the music or pop-ups are an integral part of the site's make-up that does not detract from its overall appeal in the opinion of the judges reviewing the site. All judges reviewing the site will have to agree the site has transcended the norm with excellence in design skills and integration of audio and visual components. Sites with one popup that does not return when closed will qualify for award. Sites that have more than one advertisement popup or a popup that returns when closed will be disqualified. Sites that use full page displays must have links on the main page that return the user to other pages of the site. If Flash is used on full page displays there must be a way to navigate the site without waiting for the Flash for return visitors. Sites that do not have links on the page of entry will be disqualified. Example: automatic redirect to another page in the site that pops up as a full page display, user closes full page and is now unable to navigate site because no links are on the home page.
