How long does it take to win an award?
• Time to receive award from date of application is approximately 1-12 weeks. Sites receiving conflicting scores are held until the required number of like nominations are received or until all Judges have reviewed and scored the site, at which time all scores are averaged and award is granted. Final award decision is always based on the average score from all Judges reviewing and scoring a site.
Phase 1 - Week 1-2 : Qualification & Prescreen
It takes approximately 1-2 weeks (14 days) for initial evaluation. Initial evaluation is done by one or more Nem5 Judges.
Phase 2 - Week 3-5 : Evaluation by L1 Judges
If your site passes the first phase of judging with a nomination score of 78 or higher from any initial Prescreen reviewer it goes before the full L1 (Level 1) Judging Staff. Your site is given 3 weeks (21 days) from this point to receive scores. Sites are granted Web Maggic, Resource, HomeSite, Pet, Commercial and Design Awards at the end of phase 2 if the required number of nomination scores have been received.
Phase 3 - Week 6-10 : Evaluation by L2 and F1 Judges
If your site passes through the second phase of judging with nomination scores averaging 78 or higher and/or any nominations for Excellence it may need further review by L2 (Level 2) or F1 (Flash) Judges and will be passed on to the third phase of judging. Your site is given 5 weeks (35 days) from this point to receive scores. Sites earning Art, Music, Writing, Creativity and Flash Design Awards will not receive award until the end of phase 3.
Phase 4 - Week 11-12 : Final Evaluation
1) by L2 and/or F1 Judges or 2) by Director and Chairmen (only when necessary) Any site not receiving the required number of scores and/or nominations by the end of the 10th week (70th day) of the evaluation process goes before the Director and/or Chairman for final scoring and award decisions.

How often may I apply?
• You may apply once (1 time) every year, unless you have an official numbered invitation. Please, apply no more than once (1 time) every year, unless you have been given an official numbered invitation. If you earn an Award of Excellence, please do not apply for that award again. If you earn a Web Maggic award and did not receive one, do not apply during a following year unless there has been a major upgrade to the entire site's design and content. NOTE: All sites built by a design firm will be considered to be built by a single applicant no matter the number of employees.

What languages can win?
• Sites must be in English or have an English version to be eligible for a writing award. Due to translation skills by current judges, sites using the following languages are also currently eligible for Web Maggic Awards: German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch. Language translation depends on judge participation. Sites using languages other than English may have to wait longer for awards. Please be patient. Only sites written in languages that can be translated by a Nem5 staff member will be reviewed without special permission. If you have a site in a language that is not listed, please contact Nem5 to find out if it may be possible to have your site translated by a guest reviewer. Translation software will not be linked to, used by, or offered from this program.

Can I win if I use someone else's stuff?
• Be original. Content must show originality to earn awards. Sites with nothing but links or collections of work taken from other sites are not using original content. This includes Java applets, fonts, graphics, literature, anything and everything that is not yours. Using another's work will not disqualify a site if the work has not been seen online before and you have permission to use it. If you did not make it, you should have permission from the person who did and the original creator should be noted on the page where their work is seen with a link back where applicable. The work must be used in a way that it has never been used before.

May I use more than one window (pop-up) for my site?
• Every page within a site should not link to a new window. Many types of pages that pop-up within the same site, even if your own, will be considered advertisement pop-ups. If a page does open in another window it needs to show good reason to do so, such as leaving your site to look at something on another site so your user may return easily; or to make things easier for your users, such as 1) displaying graphics or samples, 2) small amounts of text that do not otherwise fit inside the design area or 3) pages that need the layout contained within a specific area for proper interaction and/or viewing (please note... popups of this nature must be on a page with themed html and must have a warning with the link that a new window will open). Full pages within the same site should not open in a new window. Repeated pop-ups with advertisements will disqualify your site from earning any award.

May I make a pop-up for a full browser window?
• The choice of whether to view a site in full browser or with a tool bar should be left up to each user. Flash sites must have links to skip the Flash presentation. There should always be an original page with full browser capabilities that is easy to find if pop-ups are used for any reason. If the pop-up window covers the whole screen, including System Toolbars, there must be a way to close the window that is easy to find and use, and complete navigation must be offered to all pages within the pop-up area.

What is an Award of Excellence?

Does it matter what color it is?
• Color schemes and fonts should be well balanced. The site must be easy to see and read.
How long will you wait for my page to download?
• Download time for a page to load should be considered fast on any browser or computer used by the Judge/s reviewing your site. With the vast differences available in connection speeds to a wide array of judges, it is impossible to have a set time frame be fair for all. What takes one minute on a T1 connection will seem like an eternity on a 28.8 connection. We expect quality sites with quality graphics, we also expect reasonable download times for your users and ours.

Can I put a lake applet on every page?
• Cutting edge technology can help your site earn an award only if used well. It should be original programming and have a definitive purpose. It should be used in a unique manner. There should be a reason for it. It should enhance, not detract from, a sites appeal. It is possible to earn a high level award without it. It will disqualify your site for a high level award if it is used improperly. An application that exists solely for aesthetic appeal is not considered having a definitive purpose. Programming that is seen often without a definitive purpose will not earn awards.

How many pages do I have to have?
• This award is for entire web sites, not single pages. Sites with less than 5 pages of solid content will not be considered for award. All combined pages showing awards earned, contact pages, policies, forums, guestbooks, feedback, communities and/or links to other sites, no matter the number of pages, will be considered one page. Site maps, section maps, and splash pages will be considered part of this page unless they contain unique, original content.

My server sold out, my address changed, can I redirect?
• This award will only be for the address of the site that applies. This includes all pages on a site. Sections of sites with separate indexes may be considered as separate ONLY if the pages do not interlink. Only pages residing on the domain in the application will be considered for award.

Can I change the graphic if I win?
• Any change that is made to an earned award graphic must come with a request for a letter of permission to do so. Changes include anything that make it other than it was when received, including but not limited to: optimizing, resizing, changing format, reducing or adding color, using any part of the graphic anywhere on your site that it is no longer part of the original exactly as received.
If you need the graphic in a different size, please send a request to Nem5. If the change is within reason and will not distort the graphic, a member of the Nem5 Staff will change it for you and a copy of the changed graphic will be kept with your site name on it for future reference. When the change is made without asking, we will notifiy you that it is not legal to do so and ask that you replace the graphic with the original. If the graphic is not replaced with the original, and/or a request is not made and granted permission to make the change, the site will lose the link as a winner due to copyright infringement.

Can I keep the award if I change my site and no longer follow your rules?
• Nem5 reserves the right to revoke any award previously granted if the site that earned the award has been changed in a manner that makes the site inconsistent with the nature of the award earned or if the site has changed in a manner that goes against the Mandatory or Disqualifying criteria points. Nem5 reserves the right to revoke any award previously granted if it is later found the site does not comply with the rules set forth for any and all awards earned at the time the award/s was granted. Some Nem5 Awards include site practices, such as following COPPA regulations or good cutstomer relations as part of the requirement for earning the award. Sites that earn these awards must maintain the high level of practice that earned the award in order to keep the award.
