Nem5 Web Maggic Awards Program Mandatory Criteria
One point will be scored for each of these points (1-12) a site has. If a site does not have all 12 points it will not be scored further.
1. *complete construction
Site must be complete. No "Under Construction" or "Coming Soon" signs. No broken internal links.
2. *copyrights noted
Any work not done by the webmaster of the site, where the copyright
belongs to another, must have the copyright noted on the page
where the work resides and must have a license or letter of permission
to use the work from the owner of the copyright. Credit pages
will not count for this point. Judging tutorial
for copyright. (Also see criteria points 3, 10 and 68.)
3. *credit work
A credit page listing of third-party work sources will be acceptable only if: 1) it is not possible to note the work on every page seen and 2) you have a license or written permission to use the work in this manner. General statements on sites allowing work to be used in this manner will be considered written permission. Work that is part of a purchased package, including graphic or editor software packages, will be exempt from this rule and does not require notation unless the license that comes with the work demands notation of copyright ownership where the work is used. Other rules on copyright must still be met. Third party work must link to the copyholder's site with descriptive alt tags where possible.
4. *easy to contact
Links to contact site owner/webmaster must be prominent and easy
to find. General correspondence should be answered within 5 working
days. Auto-responders will not count toward this point. If mail
is returned or rejected, the site will be turned down for award
and any award already granted will have its links removed. Email
accounts for HomeSites should be password protected and safe from
children. (Also see point 67.)
5. *easy to navigate
Every page should have a link to every other when possible. Allowance is granted to large sites that may only link to every index or section of the site. It should be possible to get to every main page of the site with 2 or less clicks from the home page. Every page of every site must have a link to the home page.
6. *easy to see
Colors should not clash or hurt the eyes. Fonts should be legible at all resolutions. Examples: black backgrounds and dark text should not be combined. Large background patterns should not be used where fonts are the same color as part of the image.
7. *easy to understand
It should be easy to understand the purpose, navigation, writing, theme, and any other part of the site. Confusion will be cause to disqualify a site. The point of view of the webmaster/owner of the site is not a consideration in this factor, as long as the site does not contradict the basic views shown by said person/s. Example: If your viewpoint stands that a Cocker Spaniel or Baseball is the best, that viewpoint must be maintained throughout the site.
8. *privacy policy
All websites must show a complete Privacy Policy stating whether information will be given out to any third party and how information that is gathered will be used. If information about users is to be passed on to any third party, the particular information that is passed on, its purpose and what it will be used for must be stated clearly. If the information is passed on for the purpose of promoting advertisement or spam the site will be disqualified. Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule must be followed. COPPA laws do not have to be stated if your site is not directed toward children, however all sites must show that they are aware that children may view them and take proper precautions when necessary. Disclaimers about how a visitor may use your site will not count toward this point.
9. *quality content
No matter the theme or topic of the site it must be covered in a thorough and unique manner. The content should be of use to the intended audience. This award is for entire web sites, not single pages. Sites with less than 5 pages of solid content hosted on the domain submitted on the application will not be considered. Only the domain listed in the application form will count toward awards. Automatic redirects to another domain will disqualify the application. All combined pages showing awards earned, contact pages, policies, forums, guestbooks, feedback, communities and/or links to other sites, no matter the number of pages, will be considered one page. Site maps, section maps, and splash/entry pages will be considered part of this page unless they contain unique, original content. (Also see following criteria point.)
10. *originality
All contents, graphics, layout, and design for the site should
be used in an original manner. Any work not made by the webmaster/owner
of the site must show links to the person who did, if that person
has a website. If you have applied before and want to apply again,
the site must have a new design or an easily identified upgrade
of the old design. Third-party designed and/or programmed pages
will not be eligible for this point. (Examples of third-party
pages include, but are not limited to: forums, guestbooks, email
services and communities.) Your site may still be eligible for
an award if it contains third-party work, so long as the majority
of your site contains content and design that are unique to your
site. (See previous criteria point.)
11. * top of page links
All pages that are more than 2 scroll lengths at 800x600 must have links that return the visitor to the top of the page.
12. *clean status & title bar
The title bar of all pages must be clear of scrolling messages. This area should only be used for short descriptive titles of the pages. The status bar of all pages must be clear of static and/or scrolling messages. This area should be clean so that it is possible to see what is loading.
Top of page.
